Area of Science:

  • Oncology
  • Pathology

Background:

  • This report presents a rare case of a mixed tumor in the breast.
  • The tumor exhibited characteristics of both carcinoma and sarcoma.

Observation:

  • A 77-year-old woman presented with a large, hard, white-yellowish breast tumor and axillary adenopathy.
  • The tumor showed progressive growth in the upper outer quadrant of the right breast.

Findings:

  • Histopathological examination revealed areas of slightly differentiated carcinomatous cells forming keratin pearls.
  • Dense mixofibrochondrosarcomatous proliferations were also identified within the tumor.
  • The tumor was surgically removed via radical mammectomy.

Implications:

  • This case underscores the rarity of mixed mammary tumors, specifically those with carcinomatous and sarcomatous components.

Related Experiment Videos

  • The findings prompt discussion on the histogenesis and classification of such rare breast malignancies.
  • Further research into these complex tumors is warranted to improve diagnostic and therapeutic strategies.
