[Scientific basis for impression taking with silicone elastomers]

Starting from the chemical and physical processes which occur during the cross-linking of silicones, the author represents the material and processing properties of these impression compounds. He reports above all of the results of utilizationoriented studies which evidence the effects of different conditions of processing on the behaviour during impression taking and on the impression itself. Conclusions are drawn as to the appropriate use of silicone impression materials.
