Abstract:
Although Werner is best known as the founder of coordination chemistry and the systematizer of structural inorganic chemistry, he was trained primarily as an organic chemist, and his interest in organic chemistry continued throughout his entire career. The present article briefly reviews some of Werner's contributions to organic chemistry, especially his studies of oximes, hydroxamic and hydroximic acids, phenanthrenes, syntheses, oxonium salts, dyestuffs, and optical activity.
