Summary

This study evaluated the use of polymaleinate ionomer implants in reconstructive middle ear surgery over a three-year period. The material was used in 156 cases and showed good biocompatibility with no extrusion or tissue rejection. The implants were shaped using a diamond drill and covered with a flap of tissue to support integration. The study found that the material remained stable and intact for up to 18 months. The technique was effective in both adult and pediatric patients, with adult patients benefiting from ear canal reconstruction to avoid complications. Histological analysis confirmed the material's compatibility with surrounding tissues. The results suggest that ionomer implants are a reliable option for middle ear reconstruction.
