    Incidence and risk factors for venous reflux in the general population: Edinburgh Vein Study.

    Background:

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the potential of plasma beta-thromboglobulin (betaTG) as a diagnostic marker for venous thrombosis.
    • To assess betaTG levels in patients with confirmed deep vein thrombosis (DVT) or pulmonary embolism (PE).
    • To evaluate the correlation between betaTG levels and the detection of post-operative DVT using the 125I fibrinogen test (IFT).

    • While a correlation exists, the clinical utility of betaTG as a standalone diagnostic test for VTE requires further investigation.
    • Factors influencing betaTG levels, such as blood sampling techniques and clearance rates, need to be elucidated to fully understand its diagnostic value.
