Summary

Diagnosing cardiac angiosarcoma is challenging, even with metastatic disease. This rare heart tumor often presents late, with echocardiography showing limited diagnostic value.

Background:

Cardiac angiosarcoma is a rare malignancy with a poor prognosis, particularly in advanced stages.
Metastatic disease often complicates the clinical presentation and diagnosis of primary cardiac tumors.

Observation:

A 43-year-old patient presented with multiple pulmonary metastases, initially diagnosed via open lung biopsy.
Clinical symptoms were mild, including moderate pericarditis, with no echocardiographic evidence of a cardiac tumor.

Findings:

The primary cardiac angiosarcoma was only identified post-mortem.
Chemotherapy provided no significant benefit, leading to a rapid fatal outcome.

Implications:

This case highlights the significant diagnostic challenges associated with cardiac angiosarcoma.
