Stereo-electroencephalographic exploration and epilepsia partialis continua

J Siegfried, C Bernoulli

    Acta Neurochirurgica
    |January 1, 1976

    Summary

Stereo-electroencephalography using depth electrodes is a safe and effective method for localizing the source of somatomotor seizures in children. This technique allows for precise surgical removal of the epileptogenic focus, leading to successful treatment.

    Area of Science:

    • Pediatric Neurology
    • Neurosurgery
    • Epileptology

    Background:

    • Somatomotor status epilepticus in infants, characterized by continuous clonic jerks from sensorimotor cortex involvement, is rarely studied with depth electrodes.
    • Previous diagnostic methods for this condition have limitations in precisely localizing the epileptogenic focus.
