Surgical Placement of Catheters for Long-term Cardiovascular Exercise Testing in Swine
Published on: February 9, 2016
Abstract:
Cardiac catheter studies (CCS) are an invasive diagnostic test for heart disease. It involves passing one of various cardiac catheters via a main artery into the heart under local anaesthetic. The catheter can then be used to inject radio-opaque fluid into the patient's coronary arteries and heart chambers for serial X-rays or video recording. Samples of blood or tissue can also be obtained and pressures across heart valves can be recorded. This paper describes the procedure and the nurse's role.
