Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the association between physical activity levels and mortality risk in individuals aged 75 years and older.
  • To determine if physical activity confers survival benefits in the elderly population.

Main Methods:

  • A cohort of 285 men and women aged 75+ years, free of cardiovascular disease, was analyzed.
  • Participants were categorized into quartiles based on baseline physical activity levels.
  • Statistical adjustments were made for cardiac risk factors, COPD, and cancer.

  • Women in the second most active quartile showed a significantly lower 10-year mortality risk (RR 0.24).
  • No statistically significant mortality difference was observed in men across activity quartiles.
