Summary

This study reports a rare case of multiple benign spiradenoma (BS) presenting as a diffuse linear nevoid pattern in a 16-year-old girl. This unique presentation, present from birth, highlights potential adnexal differentiation in benign spiradenoma.

Area of Science:

  • Dermatology
  • Histopathology
  • Clinical Case Reports

Background:

  • Multiple benign spiradenoma (BS) is a rare skin tumor.
  • Typical presentations involve multiple discrete nodules.
  • Nevoid patterns of BS are exceptionally uncommon.

Observation:

  • A 16-year-old female presented with numerous papulonodular lesions present since birth.
  • Lesions were linearly distributed on the right side of her body, including the face, neck, trunk, and extremities.
  • Lesions varied in color from blue-gray to bright red; a few were mildly painful.

Findings:

  • Histopathological examination of biopsied lesions confirmed the diagnosis of benign spiradenoma (BS).
  • Tumors showed direct connection to pilosebaceous units.

Related Experiment Videos

  • Focal areas with pilar differentiation suggest BS can differentiate towards various cutaneous adnexal structures.
  • Implications:

    • This case represents the first reported instance of benign spiradenoma (BS) presenting with diffuse linear nevoid lesions.
    • The findings suggest a broader spectrum of clinical presentations for benign spiradenoma.
    • Further research may elucidate the developmental pathways and differentiation potential of benign spiradenoma.
