[Expectations of obstetrics from the viewpoint of women]

Motherhood is predominantly perceived as a coping process with social, physical, and emotional adaptation. Pregnancy care as an interdisciplinary task is, therefore, of utmost importance in supporting women during this process. Generally, women have concrete ideas and wishes regarding an optimal service: information, dialogue, and different kinds of assistance during the preparation for birth and parenthood. The results of several longitudinal studies have shown that the real experiences of women during pregnancy is essential respects differ from the expectations. Psychological and psychotherapeutical interventions in pregnant women with problems and disturbances are discussed as well.
