1Division of Surgical Oncology, Health Care International (Scotland) Ltd, Cyldebank.
Laparoscopy has changed our approach to various surgical problems. The technique described herein, depicted in a patient with idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, is safe and allows the patient to return to normal activity sooner than with open splenectomy. Laparoscopy should be considered in patients who require splenectomy for benign disease.
