Over the last 25 years the importance of the humoral presensitization status of transplant recipients has increasingly been recognized. With greater understanding of the precise specificity of the pretransplant antibody status of recipients it is clear that the graft survival figures will improve. The development of new immunosuppressive regimens to reduce antibody levels both before and after transplantation may be critically important.
