Abstract:
The authors evaluated an innovative corporate-sponsored health care program for retired employees and their dependents. The program included a multidisciplinary health care team, care coordination and referral, and health promotion workshops. Of 111 program participants who responded to a mailed survey, 95 percent reported that participation helped them maintain or improve their health through increased knowledge about their own health care and increased ability to access needed services. However, the social work role on the health care team was not well understood by program participants, suggesting the need to more clearly define and communicate the psychosocial component of health care services to older recipients.
