Summary

Ethanol affects proopiomelanocortin (POMC) and prodynorphin (PDYN) peptide levels in the rat pituitary gland, particularly during withdrawal. Chronic ethanol reduces POMC mRNA and beta-endorphin, while PDYN mRNA decreases with a rise in alpha-neoendorphin.
