Six endodontic irrigants were tested for smear layer removal. Phosphoric-citric acid and 3% or 17% ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid effectively removed smear layers, unlike sodium hypochlorite or 0.2% ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid.
