Background:

  • Computed tomography (CT) is crucial for diagnosing chronic interstitial lung disease.
  • The CT characteristics of diffuse pulmonary hemorrhage have not been previously described.

Observation:

  • CT scans of six patients with diffuse pulmonary hemorrhage were analyzed.
  • Pathological correlation was obtained from open lung biopsies in two patients.

Findings:

  • All patients exhibited diffuse nodular opacities (1-3 mm) without zonal predominance.
  • Patchy ground-glass opacities, indicative of recent hemorrhage, obscured nodularity and highlighted segmental bronchi.

Implications:

  • The described CT findings, while not pathognomonic, are consistent across patients.
