Summary

A patient with post-traumatic syringomyelia after spinal cord injury experienced excellent recovery following thecoperitoneal shunt placement. Neurological function was restored, and the syrinx cavity significantly reduced within one year.

Observation:

  • A case of syringomyelia presented two years post-spinal cord injury.
  • The patient exhibited neurological deficits secondary to the syrinx.

Findings:

  • Thecoperitoneal shunt placement with a low-pressure valve was performed.
  • Excellent neurological recovery and near-complete syrinx cavity collapse observed at one-year follow-up.

Implications:

  • Thecoperitoneal shunting is an effective treatment for post-traumatic syringomyelia.
