  • This study presents four new cases to further understand the condition.

Observation:

  • Patients' mean age was 28 years.
  • Two patients had pre-pregnancy bone loss evident on X-rays.
  • Two patients were first-time mothers (primiparas).

Findings:

  • All four cases presented with acute spinal pain, leading to diagnosis of vertebral crush fractures.
  • Diffuse osteopenia was observed, predominantly affecting the spine and pelvis.
  • One patient exhibited low urinary calcium levels.

Implications:

  • The findings suggest that diffuse osteopenia often predates pregnancy.
  • Pregnancy-related mechanical stresses can exacerbate pre-existing osteopenia, leading to symptomatic fractures.
  • Vitamin D deficiency and/or heparin therapy may contribute to the development or worsening of pregnancy osteoporosis.
