Abstract:
Using communication theory to improve biomedical communication may seem overly academic and beyond the practicality of day-to-day project deadlines. However, using communication theory allows us to organize the "big picture" while providing insight concerning the elements of successful communication. This article reviews and illustrates how the organizational power of communication theory can help biomedical communicators approach difficult communication tasks with greater opportunity for success. Overviews of selected theoretical frameworks and models are discussed along with practical implications.
