Is pre-treatment testosterone a prognostic factor in prostate cancer?
1University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Nigeria.
Abstract:
This study shows that pre-treatment testosterone level is a prognostic factor in most patients with carcinoma of the prostate. When testosterone estimation is at a very low level, the prognosis after bilateral orchidectomy is very poor. The mortality within one year is 100pc whereas if the testosterone level is within normal range, the mortality within one year is 27pc.
