Area of Science:

  • Oncology
  • Pharmacology
  • Dermatology

Background:

  • Antineoplastic agents and malignant diseases can induce Raynaud's phenomenon.
  • Raynaud's phenomenon is a vasospastic disorder affecting extremities.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To review clinical characteristics of chemotherapy-induced Raynaud's phenomenon (CIP).
  • To compare CIP with malignancy-associated Raynaud's phenomenon (MARP).

Main Methods:

  • Literature review of clinical presentations.
  • Comparative analysis of patient demographics, symptoms, and outcomes.

Main Results:

  • CIP most frequently observed in testicular cancer patients treated with bleomycin.
  • CIP generally resolves post-discontinuation of chemotherapy, with rare functional impairment but potential recurrence.
  • MARP is less common, presents with more severe symptoms, and affects older patients with advanced cancer.

Conclusions:

  • Physicians must recognize delayed toxic effects of antineoplastic drugs.
  • Understanding differences between CIP and MARP is crucial for patient management.
