Background:

  • Neonatal acute leukemia is a rare and aggressive malignancy.

Observation:

  • An uncommon case of neonatal acute leukemia presented concurrently with serological evidence of rubella infection.
  • The infant exhibited an aggressive clinical course, succumbing to sepsis five days post-diagnosis.
  • Leukemic blasts displayed a mixed-lineage immunophenotype, co-expressing B-lymphoid and myeloid markers, along with progenitor cell markers.

Findings:

  • The leukemia cells showed co-expression of B-lymphoid (CD19, cytCD22, TdT) and myeloid (CD13, CD33, CD14, anti-MPO) markers.
  • Discordant expression of CD10 and CD34 epitopes was observed.
