Summary

Uro-genital microbial colonization in urine did not link to preterm delivery. However, lower levels of lactobacilli, corynebacteria, and coagulase-negative staphylococci in the cervix were associated with preterm delivery risk.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the association between uro-genital microbial colonization and preterm delivery.
  • To compare microbial flora in urine and cervix among women with preterm labor, preterm premature rupture of membranes (PPROM), and normal pregnancies.

Main Methods:

  • Microflora analysis of urine and endocervix in 43 women with preterm labor, 45 with PPROM, and 80 normal pregnant women (26-34 weeks gestation).
  • Amniotic fluid examination in 20 patients with preterm labor.
  • Statistical analysis using Fisher's exact test.
