Summary

Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is a viable treatment for pregnant patients with acute calculus cholecystitis unresponsive to conservative care. Epidural anesthesia is a safe option, and pregnancy is not an absolute contraindication.

  • Acute calculus cholecystitis presents management challenges in pregnancy.
  • Conservative management may fail, necessitating surgical intervention.

Observation:

  • Two pregnant patients with refractory cholecystitis underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy.
  • One patient received epidural anesthesia during the procedure.

Findings:

  • Laparoscopic cholecystectomy was successfully performed in both cases.
  • Pregnancy did not preclude the use of laparoscopic cholecystectomy.

Implications:

  • Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is a safe and effective option for acute calculus cholecystitis in pregnancy.
  • Epidural anesthesia should be considered as a viable anesthetic choice for these procedures.
