Laparoscopic varicocelectomy effectively manages clinical varicoceles with minimal risks. This minimally invasive surgical technique offers a viable alternative to open surgery, leading to quick patient recovery.

Area of Science:

  • Urology
  • Minimally Invasive Surgery

Background:

  • Varicoceles are a common cause of male infertility.
  • Traditional open surgery for varicoceles carries risks and longer recovery times.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the efficacy and safety of laparoscopic varicocelectomy.
  • To present a new surgical technique for varicocele management.

Main Methods:

  • 45 laparoscopic varicocelectomies were performed on 44 patients (ages 11-41).
  • Two surgical approaches were used: Palomo technique (14 patients) and Bernardi procedure (30 patients).

Main Results:

  • All patients experienced symptom resolution post-surgery.
  • Two patients (4.4%) showed persistent venous reflux on Doppler ultrasound.

Related Experiment Videos

Conclusions:

  • Laparoscopic varicocelectomy provides excellent anatomical visualization and minimal surgical trauma.
  • The technique results in reduced post-operative morbidity and faster convalescence.
  • It is a viable alternative to open high ligation for clinical varicoceles.
