    Area of Science:

    • Cardiology
    • Pathology

    Context:

    • Understanding the unique progression of two-step myocardial infarction.
    • Identifying specific indications for surgical intervention.

    Purpose:

    • To define the characteristics of two-step myocardial infarction.
    • To evaluate emergency surgical treatment options.

    Summary:

    • Two-step myocardial infarction presents with an initial rudimentary infarction, a variable free interval, and subsequent transmural necrosis.
    • Coronary arteriography during recurrence can guide recommendations for emergency surgery.

    Impact:

    • Highlights emergency aorta-to-coronary bypass as a prime treatment for two-step myocardial infarction.
    • Improves clinical decision-making for complex myocardial infarction cases.
