    Background:

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To describe the etiological, clinical, and radiological findings of rectal diverticula.
    • To highlight the diagnostic challenges and treatment indications for rectal diverticula.

    Main Methods:

    • Retrospective analysis of eight cases of rectal diverticula.
    • Review of etiological, clinical, and radiological data.
    • Endoscopic and surgical findings were correlated.

    Main Results:

    • Males predominated (3:1 ratio) with an average of two rectal diverticula per patient.
    • Rectal diverticula were consistently accompanied by colonic diverticulosis, particularly in the sigmoid colon.
    • Rectal diverticula had a larger average diameter (2.5 cm) compared to colonic diverticula (0.5-1.0 cm).
    • Endoscopic differentiation from rectal carcinoma can be challenging.

    Conclusions:

    • Rectal diverticula often coexist with colonic diverticulosis and present unique radiological and clinical features.
    • The larger size of rectal diverticula necessitates careful endoscopic evaluation to avoid misdiagnosis.
    • Surgical treatment is indicated for complicated rectal diverticula, including abscess formation and perforation.
