Clinical Nurse Specialist CNS
|July 1, 1994
Abstract:
The health care needs found in the college or university setting present a dynamic opportunity for the CNS. Many students are living away from home for the first time and are starting to become responsible for their own health care. Historical perspectives of nurses in college health, the unique needs of the diverse college population, and the advanced practice roles of the nurse practitioner and CNS in the college setting are discussed in this article. Specific college CNS role responsibilities as a clinician, educator, researcher, and consultant are outlined. The authors discuss future college health concerns and CNS challenges in this setting.
