Summary

This study found no significant difference in the side of epithelial ovarian cancer occurrence. Ovulation side also showed no significant right-sided predilection, questioning prior research linking ovulation side to ovarian cancer risk.

Background:

  • Previous studies suggested a link between right-sided ovulation and a higher incidence of epithelial ovarian cancer.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the relationship between ovulation side and the laterality of epithelial ovarian cancer.
  • To evaluate if right-sided ovulation is more common and if epithelial ovarian cancer occurs more frequently on the right side.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective review of 293 epithelial ovarian cancer patient records.
  • Prospective analysis of ovulation side in 41 patients across 156 in vitro fertilization cycles without ovarian stimulation.
  • Monitoring included daily ultrasound, estradiol, and luteinizing hormone (LH) levels.
