Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the safety and efficacy of transurethral cystolitholapaxy using the Swiss Lithoclast for primary vesical stones in pediatric patients.
  • To assess the feasibility of using pediatric cystoscopes and the Swiss Lithoclast system for stone disintegration and removal.

Main Methods:

  • Transurethral cystolitholapaxy was performed on five boys aged 5 to 9 years with primary bladder stones.
  • A 3F metal probe of the Swiss Lithoclast was used to disintegrate stones via pediatric cystoscopes (10F and 12F).
  • Stone fragments were removed using a 13F sheath; outcomes and follow-up were monitored.

Main Results:

  • All bladder stones were successfully disintegrated and removed.
  • The mean stone diameter was 1.1 cm, with a mean operative time of 15 minutes.
  • Patients experienced a 1-day hospital stay, with no morbidity and normal uroflowmetry findings at a mean 7-month follow-up.

  • Transurethral cystolitholapaxy with the Swiss Lithoclast is a safe and effective treatment for pediatric bladder stones.
  • This technique offers a potential alternative to open cystolithotomy in selected pediatric cases.
  • The procedure demonstrates good outcomes with no long-term complications in the studied cohort.
