    Summary

    Peripheral blood leukocytes (PBL) from normal chickens bind TGAL, but agammaglobulinemic chickens do not. In contrast, both normal and agammaglobulinemic PBL bind TIGAL, indicating distinct antigen-binding mechanisms in chickens.

    Background:

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate antigen-binding capabilities of PBL in normal and agammaglobulinemic chickens.
    • To differentiate antigen binding specificities using different labeled antigens (TGAL and TIGAL).
    • To explore the role of immunoglobulin light chains in antigen binding to PBL.

    • Distinct binding characteristics of TIGAL indicate alternative antigen recognition pathways on PBL, independent of B cell-derived immunoglobulin in agammaglobulinemic chickens.
