Summary
Extensive cochlear ossification may not prevent multi-channel cochlear implantation. Three patients with cochlear implants and ossification achieved full electrode function, suggesting it is not an absolute contraindication.
Area of Science:
- Otolaryngology
- Neurosurgery
- Biomedical Engineering
Background:
- Extensive cochlear ossification presents challenges for cochlear implantation.
- Previous reports suggest limited success in cases with severe ossification.
