Area of Science:

  • Oncology
  • Gastroenterology
  • Hematology

Background:

  • Small intestine tumors are relatively rare, presenting unique diagnostic challenges.
  • Multiple myeloma is a hematologic malignancy with diverse clinical manifestations.
  • Extraosseous plasmacytic lymphoma is an uncommon plasma cell neoplasm.

Observation:

  • A case of extraosseous plasmacytic lymphoma localized to the ileum is presented.
  • The patient had a concurrent diagnosis of active multiple myeloma.
  • This represents an isolated secondary form of the lymphoma.

Findings:

  • The ileal tumor was identified as extraosseous plasmacytic lymphoma.
  • The patient's active multiple myeloma was a significant comorbidity.
  • This specific presentation is exceptionally rare in reported literature.

Implications:

  • Highlights the importance of considering rare gastrointestinal manifestations in patients with systemic malignancies.
  • Underscores the diagnostic complexity of small bowel tumors.
  • Contributes to the limited case reports on secondary extraosseous plasmacytic lymphoma in active multiple myeloma.
