[Comparison of allograft aortic valve orifice area as estimated by the Gorlin formula and the continuity equation]

In this article, we report a comparison among the results of allograft aortic valve (AAV) orifice area (AVA) as estimated by the Gorlin formula, the continuity equation and modifications of these. The best pulse hydrodynamic performance of the AAV was determined in a duplicator. The results show that the key difference among the results estimated by the Gorlin formula, the continuity equation and their modifications at the same anatomic areas was that different corrective constants are needed. The Gorlin formula was shown to be theoretically sound.
