    A new human leukocyte antigen (HLA) subtype, MS, was identified, representing a split of HLA-Dw7. This subtype is associated with HLA-B12 and potentially HLA-B13, offering new insights into HLA polymorphism.

    Background:

    • Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA) complex plays a critical role in immune response.
    • HLA-D locus subtypes are important for understanding immune system diversity and disease associations.
    • Previous classifications of HLA-D subtypes may not capture the full spectrum of polymorphism.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate a novel HLA-D homozygous typing cell, designated MS.
    • To determine the frequency and characteristics of the MS specificity within a population.
    • To clarify the relationship of the MS specificity to known HLA-D and HLA-B alleles.

    Main Methods:

    • Utilized a panel of 202 random individuals for HLA typing.
    • Employed a specific HLA-D homozygous typing cell (MS) to induce typing responses.
    • Performed HLA-B typing on individuals positive for the MS specificity.

    Main Results:

    • The MS cell induced typing responses in 7% of the tested individuals.
    • The MS specificity was found to be a split of HLA-Dw7, with most positive individuals also being HLA-Dw7 positive.

    • Further research is needed to define the relationship between MS specificity and HLA-Dw11.
