Summary

This study reports a rare case of choroid plexus papilloma in an infant that overproduced cerebrospinal fluid. Complete surgical resection led to normal growth without the need for shunting, indicating a favorable outcome for this pediatric brain tumor.

Background:

  • Choroid plexus papillomas (CPPs) are rare tumors in infants, often associated with cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) overproduction.
  • Hydrocephalus due to CSF hypersecretion is a common complication of pediatric CPPs.

Observation:

  • A case of infant choroid plexus papilloma (CPP) presenting with significant CSF overproduction is detailed.
  • The tumor exhibited histological features of CPP with mitotic activity but lacked definitive malignant indicators.
  • Transthyretin immunoreactivity was confirmed in tumor cells via CSF cytology and surgical specimens.

Findings:

  • Complete surgical resection of the CPP was achieved.
  • High PCNA (proliferating cell nuclear antigen) percentage (10.8%) was noted, but not exceeding levels seen in benign CPPs.
