    Background:

    • Glaucoma is an optic neuropathy characterized by progressive damage to the optic nerve.
    • Ciliary ganglion cells play a crucial role in regulating intraocular pressure and ocular blood flow.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the early cellular changes in ciliary ganglion cells following experimental glaucoma induction in rhesus monkeys.

    • Experimental induction of glaucoma in rhesus monkeys.
    • Microscopic examination of ciliary ganglion cells.

    Main Results:

    • Peripheral displacement or extrusion of the cell nucleus was observed within 12 hours.
    • Loss of Nissl granules, indicative of cellular stress or damage, was also noted.

    Conclusions:

    • Early and distinct morphological changes occur in ciliary ganglion cells shortly after glaucoma onset.
    • These findings suggest that ciliary ganglion cells are vulnerable to acute glaucomatous changes.
