[Microflora and immunity in surgical patients. I. Some microfloral indices in the pre- and postoperative periods]
Abstract:
Surgical treatment can lead to the appearance of a purulent staphylococcus infection of endogenous etiology. Endogenous infection originates as a result of the patient's diminished resistance, indicated by an increase in the number of pathogenic staphylococci, the appearance of representatives of the intestinal flora in the oral cavity and on the surface of the skin. No iogenous purulent infection.
Insights
Surgical patients may develop endogenous staphylococcus infections due to weakened immunity. This leads to increased pathogenic bacteria and potential gut flora presence on skin and in the mouth.
Area of Science:
- Infectious Diseases
- Surgical Complications
- Microbiology
Background:
- Surgical interventions can compromise patient immune status.
- Endogenous infections arise from the patient's own microbial flora.
- Increased susceptibility to pathogenic bacteria like Staphylococcus is a concern post-surgery.
Purpose of the Study:
- To investigate the occurrence of endogenous staphylococcus infections following surgical treatment.
- To understand the factors contributing to the development of these infections.
- To identify microbial shifts associated with diminished patient resistance.
Main Methods:
- Clinical observation of surgical patients.
- Microbiological analysis of oral cavity and skin flora.
- Assessment of patient immune markers and resistance levels.
Main Results:
- Surgical treatment was associated with the onset of purulent staphylococcus infections.
- Diminished patient resistance correlated with increased pathogenic staphylococci counts.
- Translocation of intestinal flora to the oral cavity and skin surface was observed.
Conclusions:
- Endogenous staphylococcus infections are a potential complication of surgical procedures.
- Reduced host resistance is a key factor in the pathogenesis of these infections.
- Monitoring microbial changes is crucial for preventing and managing post-surgical infections.
