Thrombopoietin levels in thrombocytopenic mice assayed by 75Se-se-lenomethionine incorporation into blood platelets reached a maximum 12 h after the induction of an acute, immune thrombocytopenia; that was more than twice the value in control mice. The implications of this finding are discussed with reference to the kinetics of megakaryocyte production.
