Abstract:
A variety of bacterial infections occurred in patients with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection and the supposed mechanisms of their complications were reviewed, especially according to the revised classification system for HIV infection. Among the reported cases of AIDS autopsy in Japan, only 33% of the cases were noticed with bacterial infections. This observation, however, represented that many doctors had not paid an attention to bacterial infections in patients with HIV infection. Bacterial infections were also important for the patient's survival as well as the diagnosis of AIDS.
