Summary

Cemented total articular replacement arthroplasty (TARA) hip resurfacing showed an 84.5% survival rate at ten years. Younger patients (55.7 years) had higher revision rates, suggesting TARA is less durable than traditional hip replacements.

Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the long-term outcomes of cemented primary TARA hip resurfacing.
  • To compare the survival rates and revision causes of TARA hip replacements.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective review of 184 cemented primary TARA hip procedures performed between 1981-1985.
  • Follow-up of 174 hips for a mean of 8 years (range, 3.5-10.4 years).
  • Survival analysis using Kaplan-Meier curves.

Main Results:

  • Implant failure requiring revision occurred in 13.2% of patients.
