Area of Science:

  • Reproductive endocrinology
  • Neuropsychology
  • Gerontology

Context:

  • The menopausal transition is associated with hormonal fluctuations impacting cognitive function.
  • Understanding age-related memory changes is crucial for women's health.
  • This study examines memory function across different age groups of women.

Purpose:

  • To investigate memory function in women during the climacteric and periclimacteric periods.
  • To identify age-related patterns of memory decline.
  • To correlate memory performance with menopausal status.

Summary:

  • Two hundred women aged 31-65 were divided into seven age groups.
  • Memory function was assessed using paired associate learning.
  • Significant memory decline was observed starting in the 41-45 age group, with further impairment in the 51-55 age group.
