[Fetal ventriculogram in rhesus immunization. Various aspects]

P Eisenberg de Smoler, C D Munguia, J A Dominguez

Journal De Gynecologie, Obstetrique Et Biologie De La Reproduction
    |January 1, 1975

    Summary

Diagnosing fetal distress in hydropic fetuses using electrocardiography is challenging. While electric axes showed no significant difference, low voltage, triangular ventriculograms were more common in hydropic fetuses.

    Area of Science:

    • Perinatology
    • Fetal Cardiology
    • Medical Diagnostics

    Context:

    • Hydropic fetuses present complex diagnostic challenges.
    • Fetal heart failure and distress require accurate diagnostic methods.
    • Feto-maternal electrocardiography is a non-invasive technique.

    Purpose:

    • To evaluate the utility of feto-maternal electrocardiography in diagnosing fetal distress or heart failure in hydropic fetuses.
    • To compare electrocardiographic findings between hydropic and normal fetuses.

    Summary:

    • External electrodes and a feto-maternal electrocardiographic machine were used to analyze fetal electrocardiograms.
    • No significant differences were found in the electric axes between normal and hydropic fetuses.
    • Low voltage ventriculograms with a triangular shape were more prevalent in hydropic fetuses.

    Related Experiment Videos

    Impact:

    • The study suggests this method is not useful for diagnosing chronic fetal distress or heart failure.
    • Further attention should be directed towards hydropic fetuses exhibiting low voltage, triangular ventriculograms.
