Abstract:
Experimental data obtained in this laboratory led to the determination of the mechanism of hydrolysis of peptide bonds by proteolytic enzymes. Efficiency and specificity of proteinases are explained in terms of the substrate state in the productive enzyme-substrate complex. An advanced classification of proteinases based on their mechanism of action is suggested.
