[Jiangzhi koufu ye in the treatment of essential hyperlipemia]
Insights
Jiangzhi Koufu Ye (JZKFY) significantly improves serum lipid profiles by lowering total cholesterol and triglycerides. This traditional Chinese medicine demonstrates a high efficacy rate with no significant side effects.
Area of Science:
- Cardiovascular Pharmacology
- Herbal Medicine Efficacy
- Lipid Metabolism Research
Context:
- Dyslipidemia is a major risk factor for cardiovascular diseases.
- Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) offers potential therapeutic avenues for managing lipid disorders.
- Evaluating the efficacy of TCM formulations in modern clinical settings is crucial.
Purpose:
- To investigate the effects of Jiangzhi Koufu Ye (JZKFY) on serum lipid profiles in patients.
- To compare the efficacy of JZKFY with Vitamin E in managing dyslipidemia.
- To assess the safety and sustained effects of JZKFY treatment.
Summary:
- A clinical trial involving 333 patients demonstrated that JZKFY significantly reduced total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), and the TC-HDL-c/HDL-c ratio (P < 0.001) after 14 weeks.
- JZKFY also significantly increased high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-c) levels.
- The therapeutic effects were sustained for at least 4 weeks post-treatment, with marked and total effective rates of 59% and 92%, respectively. JZKFY outperformed Vitamin E in most lipid parameters, with no observed adverse effects.
Impact:
- JZKFY presents a highly effective and safe therapeutic option for improving serum lipid profiles.
- This study supports the integration of evidence-based TCM into conventional cardiovascular disease management.
- Findings highlight JZKFY's potential to reduce cardiovascular risk by optimizing lipid metabolism.
Abstract:
The effect of Jiangzhi Koufu Ye (JZKFY) for serum lipid was verified. 333 patients were treated with JZKFY as treated group, while those with vitamin E as control. It was found that JZKFY was able to lower TC, TG, TC-HDL-ch/HDL-ch and raise HDL-ch very significantly (P < 0.001) after 14 weeks and the effect were maintained at least 4 weeks. The marked effective and the total effective rate were 59% and 92% respectively. Except for HDL-ch, all other indexes were better than the control. No obvious side effects were found.
