Summary

Aero style handlebars did not significantly impact time to exhaustion or exercise intensity in trained cyclists during long-term cycling. Performance metrics remained comparable between aero and standard racing handlebars.

  • Eleven highly trained cyclists (VO2max: 61.7 ± 2.9 ml.kg-1.min-1) participated in two continuous cycling rides.

    • Aero style handlebars do not significantly alter time to exhaustion or exercise intensity compared to standard racing handlebars in trained cyclists during prolonged exercise.
    • The findings suggest that handlebar choice may not be a critical factor for endurance performance in this population.
    • Further research could explore other physiological or biomechanical factors influenced by handlebar type.
