Area of Science:

  • Orthopedic Surgery
  • Minimally Invasive Procedures
  • Hand Surgery

Background:

  • Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is a common condition causing hand numbness and weakness.
  • Traditional open carpal tunnel release can involve significant post-operative recovery.
  • Endoscopic techniques aim to reduce surgical invasiveness and improve patient outcomes.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To describe and evaluate the efficacy of a single-portal endoscopic carpal tunnel release technique.
  • To report outcomes including symptom relief, complication rates, and patient satisfaction.
  • To compare subjective results with traditional open carpal tunnel release.

Main Methods:

  • Description of the surgical technique using the Concept Carpal Tunnel Relief Kit.

Related Experiment Videos

  • Utilized a standard 4-mm arthroscope for the single-portal endoscopic release.
  • Prospective reporting of the first 100 consecutive cases performed by the author.
  • Main Results:

    • Ninety-four percent of patients experienced significant relief of carpal tunnel syndrome symptoms.
    • No permanent neurological or vascular complications were reported in the series.
    • Grip strength returned to preoperative levels within 3-4 weeks for most patients.

    Conclusions:

    • The single-portal endoscopic carpal tunnel release is a safe and effective treatment for carpal tunnel syndrome.
    • This technique demonstrates high success rates and favorable patient-reported outcomes.
    • Patient satisfaction was notably higher compared to the open carpal tunnel release method.
