Abstract:
Over the past five years elemental diets have assumed an important role in the pre- and postoperative nutrition of patients on the Surgical Service at the St. Vincent's Hospital and Medical Center of New York City. The purpose of this paper is to give the history of this development and the results of our experience with the elemental diet.
