Summary

A renal carbuncle, a kidney abscess, was successfully treated in a 44-year-old woman. Percutaneous drainage and antibiotics resolved the infection, highlighting effective management of this serious condition.

Background:

Renal carbuncle is a rare but serious kidney infection.
Prompt diagnosis and treatment are crucial for patient outcomes.

Observation:

A 44-year-old woman presented with fever and severe left costovertebral angle pain.
Clinical presentation suggested a possible renal infection.

Findings:

Diagnostic imaging including ultrasonography, intravenous urography, and computed tomography confirmed a renal carbuncle.
Percutaneous puncture validated the diagnosis.

Implications:

Percutaneous drainage combined with parenteral antibiotics offers a successful treatment strategy.
This case underscores the importance of timely imaging and interventional radiology in managing renal carbuncles.
